Short Post

I spent two hours looking at the Cal Career Center website a couple of nights ago and got blown away by the massive amounts of information and resources. I feel dumb for not signing up for an externship for this winter break. That's what I get for not being as resourceful as I should have been.

Reminder to self: Stop spending so much time thinking and planning; just do it.

This is what I did today:

I watched Autumn's Concerto for about four hours XD

Lots of earthquakes lately....

3 A.M. is the new 1 A.M.

I can't believe how normal it is for me to be up at 3 A.M. now :(
Something's wrong with me. Most people sleep for 10 or 12 hours on average during break but I sleep from 4:00-11:00 (that's when my alarm goes off but sometimes [ok, most of the time] I dose until 12 or something). It's really gross and that's why I'm excited for school to start so that I can stop being so ridiculously gross.

Today as I walked by the Metro PCS store in Arden, I saw this huge sign that led me to the sweetest cell phone deal. For $30 a month, I get unlimited local and long distance AND unlimited texting (and international texting, which I find hilarious bc most people wouldn't use that). This made my day because my family had just been thinking of switching to a cheaper cell phone plan and I had been wanting a phone update (I hadn't gotten one since my first cell phone before 10th grade. My phone was wayyyyyy ancient XD). I have texting now. TEXTING. I never was able to get it before because I didn't want to waste money on something I didn't truly "need", but now it comes with the package!!

Here's the phone I got:

The person working at the metro pcs store was hilarious. She had just started working there and she had to keep calling her manager every five minutes to figure out what the heck she was doing, and the poor girl was the only person working for a while-- she was swamped by all the customers, loll.

Another thing I noticed at the store: I saw two families getting cell phones for their kids, and I swear these kids look no older than 10. It really bugs me when I see 10 year olds playing with cell phones.....geesh when you're 10 you're supposed to be playing tag outside, jump roping, or playing with 10 year old things, not cell phones!! -.- Ahh the social norms have changed. Quickly. Some changes are dumb, but some are awesome. For example, I will not be getting a cell phone bill mailed to me; instead I will pay them all online. This, I believe, is a policy that should apply everywhere. If all our bills were payed online we'd save so much on stupid stamps and envelops, and we wouldn't have to go out to mail the darn thing. Plus, collectively as a nation we'd save a SUBSTANTIAL amount of trees and there'd be some huge positive effect on the environment. I believe going green will be big in the near future. I really like the idea too. Poor Earth, please don't die!! I mean, just a few years ago, cell phones were bricks and most kids didn't spend all their time online. Then came flip phones and now smart phones. And what happened to buying VHS's? Now there's blue ray high def (or better yet, we just all stream it online), and just less than 10 years ago, it was normal to have computer monitors that looked like huge cubic shaped boxes (like my old one, HAHAHA). I think it's because of those that I always think the recent skinny desktop monitors are very visually appealing :D I'm pretty interested to see what types of crazy developments I'll see throughout my lifetime. But despite the new convinience and advances, I'll still value some of the irreplaceable old school features of the 90's. Kids these days don't get to watch the GOOD cartoons, like the original Pokemon, Toonami, Kids WB on Saturday Mornings (Jacky Chan Adventures, Batman, etc.), Boomerang, Cartoon Network's Cartoon Theatre, the Animaniacs. No wonder I was such a TV junkie as a kid, all the shows were so good xD, unlike the cartoons today

This is a terrible transition but I bought Quelf at Target!! I can't wait to make all my friends play it because it's ridiculous and hilarious. I also have been enjoying chocolate chip waffles and I've recently developed an obsession with CRAISINS (amazing dried cranberries). I never liked dried fruit before. Most of my friends know I'm really picky but really I've made some "outrageous" stepping outside of my comfort zone since going to college, LOL. I never used to eat apples without removing the peel, never ate wheat bread, and did not like carrots that weren't cooked. Now I eat the apple whole and I eat wheat bread as well as carrots raw :)

8 more days in Sacramento and then back to Berkeley it is. The next time I have a long break I'll make sure I sign up to do something productive so that I don't just fiddle around most of the time -_-

Davis, Thoughts, Cal

So I got back tonight from Davis.

Aubry and I stayed at Ana's house, where she kindly housed and fed us for two days :D. Things I did:

Quelf, which is the MOST AWESOME board game.

Watched Runaway Bride, which was really boring. I think I finally moved passed the phase of enjoying cheesy chick flicks. (Unless there's some interesting twist in the plot or is hilarious to watch)

Movie hopped: saw Sherlock Holmes and Up in the Air. I really really liked Up in the Air and thought Sherlock Holmes was okay. This gave me more of a reminder that I usually don't enjoy movies as much if they are unrealistic or completely fictional.

Had three hour conversations from midnight to past three AM (which is sadly now considered normal for me to be up until)

Had a scavenger hunt in downtown Davis. Highlights include taking pictures (with two people+ and the object) of:

-a half eaten sandwich (walked into Beach House Deli: "Excuse me, we're on a scavenger hunt, can we take a picture with you and your half eaten sandwich")

- a pile of dog poop (Liz: screams "OMG IT'S A PILE OF DOG POOP!!" as we walk past it)

- a private college sweatshirt (we walk past Davis Sushi and see a few people we know through the window so we wave to them. Five steps later: "Wait, Angela was wearing a stanford sweatshirt!!" So we run back over and take a picture with her through the window)

-a pillow (we walk into a store that sells stuff for babies.

"Excuse me, do you have any pillows"

"What kind of pillow?"

"Any kind would work"

"You know, babies don't usually use pillows"

"We're on a scavenger hunt"

"Oh! We wouldn't want to ruin that, would this work?"

-Storeowner holds up a weird circular cushion thing-

"Yep!"

-multiple pictures with a "really hot guy" (too lazy to type out the story)

Played Sardines in Target

Also, something freaky happened three nights ago. Our bathroom has two doors, one leads to the hallway and the other leads to my bedroom. That night I came out of the door that leads to our bedroom, and right at that moment, I heard the other door to our bedroom (that leads to the hallway) SLAM really hard. Both my mom and my dad were asleep. Yeah, I like to tell myself I imagined it, but I probably didn't because my dad said he heard a door slam too...... I don't know how I'm going to survive living at Berkeley in an apartment for the rest of my four years at Cal.

One of my biggest new year's resolutions is to spend more time looking into the numerous numerous things I could be doing at Cal. The first semester flew by ridiculously fast and I ask myself, what did I take part in? Did I invest time into participating in things that I loved? Did I act with friendliness and openness to the new people I met as much as I could have? Did I manage my time well (AKA NOT spend way too much time worrying, balance work vs. play)? All I can say is, I could use a lot of improvement.

Maybe going to a big university like Cal is actually not as easy as going to a smaller college. Since Cal is so big, it's hard to find the right guidance, hard to zoom in or even find the kinds of activities that would really fit what I want to do, and harder to find a place where I can say I belong to without hesitation. Cal is awesome because it has SO MUCH to offer, so much that it's overwhelming to know where to start. It's going to take effort on my part to actively seek out the resources I need. I'm going to try to start Spring 2010 with a better attitude and hopefully make more out of my short four years in college.

I'm on a Freaking Banana Diet

Save me from the bananas. I've eaten about two bananas every day for the past three days. Why? Because my dad decided that he would only eat apples since my mom bought a huge sack of them from Costco. And we all know how much I don't like seeing food going to waste -____- Yeah, one of the many strange things about him that will never change.

Yesterday was Christmas. Like every Christmas, we didn't do anything. Which is fine, because honestly, I think Christmas is like any other day. But I really would like it if I were part of one of those families that at least gets together with a few relatives or family friends, not just on Christmas, but in general. It's that warm feeling you get when being with people who love you that really makes me happy. And sadly, I'll never get that in terms of extended family.

I've been home for a week. What really sucks is that I'm in Sacramento, and all my friends are in Davis, and the fact that my mother is either working or being busy at home with lots of random chores, and my dad is... my dad. That along with how we don't have a lot of money to drive everywhere basically means I feel I have no right to ask for a ride. Being at home in Sac is different. In Davis, I could bike everywhere without having to ask my mom for a ride and putting more stuff on her busy agenda. In Berkeley, I can walk everywhere or take the shuttle for free. Being able to rely on oneself is important and feels great.

Since not driving basically means being crippled in Sacramento, here's a few things I've done this break:
*I caught up on all 13 episodes of Glee.
*I really liked some of the music on Glee so I decided to download off of Frostwire.
*I've been reading nonfiction books. I decided that from now on I will read more nonfiction instead of fiction.
*I can pretty much cook dinner now. YES!!!! As in a real meal: make rice, steam meat, fry vegetables. Yay I won't be screwed over when I move out into an apartment.
*I made a lot of lists to organize myself. Since by nature I'm kind of a spaz/think way too much I tend to think of a bunch of random things throughout the day and scribble them on a piece of paper. Then I end up with way too many tasks on too many pieces of paper that I go crazy!!

One new years resolution: BE MORE ORGANIZED.

So yes, break in a nutshell has been spent by myself -_- I look forward to Tuesday, because I'll actually be able to see some high school friends!!! And to the day that the Hailes come visit. I really need the ability to teleport.
